Kennywood Holiday Lights

Pittsburgh Area Sunday Drives

A tall outdoor Christmas tree covered in lights.

December 29

You might think of Kennywood as something fun for the summer, but if you’re looking to get visitors out of the house, it’s a great option during the holiday break as well – with Holiday Lights, which operates nightly from December 26-30.

Kennywood, of course, is a Pittsburgh tradition, billing itself as America’s finest traditional amusement park. For the holidays, they deck their rides out with nearly two million lights, stage a choreographed light show (two different ones, actually) where lights around the Lagoon area “dance” to holiday tunes, and center the whole thing with the tallest Christmas tree in the state of Pennsylvania. It’s beautiful, but even better, it’s not just a light show – rides are open, along with many of the things kids love during the summer – so it’s a great way to get the kids outside.

Holiday Lights take place December 26-30 from 5 to 9 pm, though they can be cancelled due to inclement weather, so it’s good to check the website before you take off. (Event is also Fridays, Saturdays and Sunday evenings throughout December, if you’re looking to do it earlier.) Tickets are just $19.49 ($18.49 for Fridays and Sundays) and can be purchased online; they’re good for any Holiday Lights date, so you can shift your holiday plans a bit if needed.
