Family Circus Festival

March 22

Few of us remember the excitement of when the circus came to town, with an endless line of exotic performers and elephants parading down Main Street. But you’ll find the magic of the circus is still very much alive (and infectious) at Woodmere Art Museum on March 22 from noon to 4 pm.

The Family Circus Festival: Juggling Color has it all – stories, crafts, performers, and colorful circus-inspired creations by such celebrated artists as Robert Riggs and Alexander Calder. The fun begins promptly at noon with stories read aloud to children as they craft their own puppets reflecting the characters within the tales they hear. Stroll the museum’s galleries, and you’ll encounter roaming mime artists and friendly stilt walkers that the kids will really look up to.

Then at 2:15 pm, performers from The Little Circus take the stage. Presented by the Give & Take Jugglers, this 45-minute show features not only juggling but trapeze and tightwire artists, all performing on a small stage with props, banners and rigging that recreate an authentic circus atmosphere. Kids are welcome to talk to the performers after the show.

Children are admitted free and there’s a suggested donation of $5 for adults. For more details, visit the Woodmere website. For more on The Little Circus, visit jugglers.com.
